New Resource: What is Body Image?
Body image is a difficult topic for many young people. They receive unrealistic messages from media about what our bodies “should” look like (thin or muscular depending on your perceived gender; and other expectations around race and body types).
It can be a challenge not to absorb those messages and feel inadequate. There is not one perfect body type, but instead a vast diversity of unique bodies that come in every shape, size, and color.
This new handout from the Adolescent Health Working Group is a resource for young people to think about body image, assess feelings about their body, share ideas on how to improve body image, and develop empathy for the experience of others.
